Day 9 - The glorification of conquest
Jan 10, 2025 - I must say this type of art has never been my favorite, and now thinking about it, I see that it's not just the style of the work, but the subject of the work. Today's artwork is by Andrea del Verrocchio (1435-1488), a master painter and sculptor, in whose workshop Leonardo de Vinci, Botticelli, and Filippino Lippi were apprentices.
This piece is in the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC.
I didn't know much about either Verrocchio or Alexander the great - but it seems to me, that the story of Alexander the great is the story of the conquest.
